Effective and Nurturing Practices Dilemma. Effective and nurturing practices are ways in which school staff create climates that are safe and supportive. Establishing and maintaining a positive school climate are critical responsibilities not only of the principal, but of all school personnel. A positive school climate is one where “students have positive school relationships and are respectful, engaged in their work and feel competent” (National School Climate Center, 2013, p.5). Research shows a direct correlation between a positive school climate and student achievement (2013).
