While planning for growth and development for educators and students alike, it is important to be aware of factors that may impede progress so as to plan ahead and mitigate potential problems. Ash and D’Auria share six historical factors which have “limited the capacity of school systems to educate all students at high levels” (2013, pp. 18-41). Use this information to speak to at least 3 of the factors you find most limiting.

Initial Post

Use a digital tool such as YouTube, Present.Me, VoiceThread, Screencast, or any other digital tool allowing yourself to be recorded (voice OR video). Post the following:

  • List of three limitations.

  • Link to your digital discussion.

Your digital discussion should include a brief summary in your own words of:

    • What each limitation means to you.

    • Why each is instrumental in reaching all students.

Potential, specific solutions as to how to change them.

*Please contact your instructor directly if for some reason, use of a digital tool cannot be fulfilled.

Guided Response: Post replies to at least two peers. In your replies, consider asking questions of peers about their responses to encourage further conversation. Also, consider these prompts for constructing your replies:

  • What new or different perspective did you gain from them?

  • Provide specific feedback regarding your new or changed perspective as well as your thoughts regarding

    the potential solutions they shared.

  • How effective do you perceive these potential solutions could be?

  • Ask a question regarding their solutions that may encourage them to think in an added or different

    perspective or enhance their idea.

Though two replies is the basic expectation, for deeper engagement and learning, you are encouraged to provide responses to any comments or questions others have given to you (including the instructor) before the last day of the discussion; this will further the conversation while also giving you opportunities to demonstrate your content expertise, critical thinking, and real world experiences with this topic.
