ECET 220 Week 1 Lab Voltage Rectifier and Voltage Regulation Circuits

Objectives:

 

  1. 1.         To analyze the characteristics of rectifying diode using theoretical, simulation, and physical construction of the circuit.
  2. 2.         To analyze the characteristics of voltage regulation (zener diode and voltage regulator) using theoretical, simulation, and physical construction of the circuit.

 

 

Results:

 

The zener diode produces output in only one direction which is in the positive direction in the case of this experiment. The capacitor smoothens the output waveform. The zener and voltage regulator produce a fixed voltage of about 5 volts in this experiment.

 

 

 

Conclusions:

 

Rectifying diodes convert the pure sinusoidal input to a DC output by allowing one direction of voltage flow. When the capacitor is used in a rectifying circuit, its purpose is to reduce ripple and smooth the output waveform. At certain amount of input, fixed output voltage can be obtained with regulators.
